Hex on all three says: Family. Friends. Home.

BHC’s address is 7401 Park Heights Avenue, but that’s just the house. What makes it a home is what’s inside.

When you officially join BHC, you become a part of a family that traces its lineage to the first synagogue in the state of Maryland and the first ordained rabbi to have a congregation in the United States. Our family stood up for Civil Rights in the 1960s and for marriage equality in the twenty-first century.

We celebrate our shared heritage while making it resonant and meaningful for today’s world. Like any extended family, there are long-standing relationships to be continued and fledgling ones to be cultivated. We get together for shabbat and holidays, of course, but also to grieve, to celebrate, to laugh, to learn, to serve, to create, to play, and simply to be still.

Member dues help make our congregational home possible: from our worship services to our community service, general operations to special occasions, live streaming for virtual attendance to security for in-real-life attendance, salaries for our clergy and staff to maintenance for our building and grounds. In short, members make possible all that BHC is and all that it does.

When you become a member you’ll also enjoy:

  • Being in-the-know about the high-quality educational, cultural, and religious programming taking place with and for the congregation
  • Access to our supportive, knowledgeable, and talented clergy for lifecycle moments like brit milah and baby namings, b’mitzvah, weddings, and funerals, and for pastoral counseling through life’s challenges
  • Member rate on religious school for your child(ren)
  • Free membership for your adult children, up to age 29, if they become confirmed at BHC (this provides a letter of reciprocity opening doors to other Reform congregations around the country for college and post-college travels)
  • Meaningful and fun volunteer and learning opportunities
  • Member rate on rentals at BHC for lifecycle and other events
  • Most importantly, knowing you’re helping to sustain your Jewish home for yourself and for the future!
