Register for 2025-26 JLAB (Jewish Learning @ BHC) and 2025-26 NextGen Teen Program!
JLAB (Jewish Learning at BHC)
JLAB (Jewish Learning at BHC) has a variety of entry points to engage families in Jewish life and learning. Our Sunday programs, Alternative options, Youth groups, Shabbat/Holiday Services, camps and social action programs are just the beginning in creating a foundation for living a Jewish life.
We pride ourselves on meeting families where they are and providing meaningful, engaging opportunities for participation.
Sunday Mornings
JLAB (Jewish Learning at BHC) runs on Sunday mornings (9 AM–Noon) and offers creative learning for pre-k through 7th grade. The program enables students to develop a foundation of Jewish life as part of an inclusive, vibrant, active community. Students spend time together exploring Judaism, singing, playing games, learning Hebrew and making meaning, all while creating friendships that we hope will last a lifetime. Our classes put children at the center, and we pride ourselves on the unique, sometimes quirky ways that we bring Jewish learning to this generation.
On any given Sunday students may find themselves cooking in the kitchen, playing on the fields, singing on our stage or leading prayer from the bima. Classes can include topics such as: "Outdoor Adventure Torah, Sports and Games in Israeli Culture, Iron Chef Holiday Edition, Graphic Novel Creation and Coding and Game Design with Torah Stories. Our unique approach is as individualized as our students.
Our Sunday program is taught by a dynamic faculty that is energetic and passionate about meeting the needs of individual students. They are assisted by a group of teens who serve as madrichim, “guides” who assist in classrooms. If our Sunday learning options are not well suited to your family, we encourage you to reach out to Julie Wohl at jwohl@baltimorehebrew.org to develop something that works for you.
Individual Learning
Online, individual and small group tutoring is available; BHC has developed a group of engaging and creative tutors who help students explore Hebrew, Judaics, and Jewish living. Tutors meet students in homes, libraries, schools, and other public places, based on the schedule of the families

We meet teens where they are. We take them where they never imagined they'd be.
NextGen: The Millie and Alvin Blum 8th-12th Grade Teen Program at BHC
NextGen: The Millie and Alvin Blum 8th-12th grade Teen Program at BHC is the next evolution of teen education, allowing teens to navigate their Judaism and build their own teen community at BHC. NextGen has opportunities ranging from teen leadership training, travel, social action, and more. Teens are given a full menu of options which will allow them to pick their own schedule and take ownership of their Jewish engagement.
Tangible Life Skills: As teens participate in the program they are simultaneously learning tangible life skills. Public speaking, cooking, college prep, debate, and advocacy are just a few examples of skills teens can gain from this program.
Community: In addition, this program is built to create substantial relationships. We are providing hands-on learning, experience and social opportunities that enable teens to get to know their peers on a deeper level.
Flexibility: The flexibility of this program has both teens and parents alike raving about the menu of options. In today’s society, teens are over programmed and NextGen recognizes this with a range of dates, offerings and topics to fit the needs of everyone’s schedule.
NextGen is designed to meet teens where they are, and provide unique, innovative and engaging Jewish opportunities. This program will continue to evolve to meet the needs of our teens as they continue to establish their individual and collective Jewish identity.
Confirmation
In 10th grade, members of BHC participate in Confirmation. Students learn with our Rabbis on Sunday mornings, become leaders in our community and travel as a group. Our students deepen their relationships with our clergy and educators, explore Jewish, ethical and personal issues from their own perspectives, and prepare the Shavuot Evening Service in the late spring. Every year, the Confirmation class travels to Washington D.C. for a fun and inspiring weekend seminar with the Religious Action Center culminating with an opportunity to advocate for an urgent political issue of their choosing.

School's still out. Traditional camps are over. What's a parent to do?
We've got you.
Camp BHC
Camp BHC is an experiential and fun one-week (end of August) program that provides K through 7th graders an opportunity to explore the natural world through a Jewish lens, grow connections to community, and get grounded in the Camp BHC experience. Sports, art, drama, cooking, computers, water play, interactive camp challenges, field trips, and social action projects are just a few of our activities our campers enjoy. 7th and 8th graders can choose the Jr CIT track (Counselor-in-training) working alongside the NextGen teens while still enjoying time to play. 9th and 10th graders can be CITs, while 11th and 12th graders are paid as counselors.
Each day offers a unique angle and a flexible schedule allowing you to choose 1, 2, 3, 4, or all 5 days.
